My Work
I love making knives. I also take every chance I get to be creative in the shop beyond the tasks of the bladesmith.
I love to incorporate isolation and punched holes into my ironwork. I want to explore sculptural metal and ways to move metal and isolate and manipulate into a sculptural form. I celebrate the functional and add my flair to make it beautiful. I’m utterly fascinated by locks and keys, because they’re so precise. Sculptural is the artistic side, and lock and key is the artisan side, the bridge between craft and art.
Artisan is the bridge between art and craft where you take craft to the level of art for sheer joy of it. Take, for example, archaeologists dissecting ancient locks would take them apart and on the inside find the most intricate engravings. The creator was just having fun. That’s how I approach my work, with skill and joy.
